Remember friendship bracelets? Well, I for certain was obsessed... I had every color of cotton embroidery thread (organized in my special friendship bracelet making box) and spent hours 'crossing over, looping through and knotting'.
Well thanks to two New Yorkers (Stacy Herzog and Sarah Reid), friendship bracelets are back and like us, they're all grown up. Frieda and Nellie (their grandmothers' names) was started as a side project but has managed to take friendship bracelets from craft to couture. Based on the mantra "Reuse, Repurpose, Reinvent," the girls have ingeniously combined the simplicity of woven friendship bracelets with pieces of vintage jewelry (rhinestones, enamel flowers and pearls). These one-of-a-kind, handmade bracelets come in a variety of colors and styles, ranging from $130 to $250. So for a trip down memory lane, check out www.friedaandnellie.com.
p.s. In early 2010, Stacy and Sarah were named as a 'promising up-and-coming design duo' by Women's Wear Daily (WWD).
